How much fuel is used when car is not moving?

Basically last night me and my gf were in the back of the car with music playing but the engine off. One thing led to another and 3 hours later the car battery is dead....Could you leave the engine on in a car for 3 hours without wasting too much fuel? How much would it use up?
 
I know it burns gas just about as much as driving,but watch your cooling system for three hours overheat .Get a i pod.
