I'm not sure what the price of a tune up down in the USA would be, but I can give you a few easy tips that can help you do a bit of a tuneup yourself with little to no tools. It can be a fun small challenge and will help you gain valuable experience which can save you money down the road.
Injector Cleaner
You can buy injector cleaner at any place like wal-mart or an auto parts store. Just pour it into your gas tank and thats it. It will clean the injectors (they spray gasoline into the combustion chambers) to provide for a better spray. This is a good way to improve performance and gas mileage.
Oil Change
an oil change is necessary for a good tune-up.
Spark Plugs
For this, you will need to purchase two cheap tools. A ratchet, if you don't already have one, and a spark plug socket (available at a parts store, or tool store) Simply unhook your spark plug wires (6 black wires going into your engine). This is done by simply pulling them off. You will then see spark plugs. Just put your socket on and ratchet them off. Replace with new spark plugs. Replace wires and voila!
Engine Flush
This is another product that you simply pour.. it is probably around ten dollars. Pour a bottle of it into where you add oil, and run your engine for about ten minutes. Do this right before the oil change.
Fuel Filter
These can be replaced by going to a lube shop or a garage for a low price. This will improve the flow of fuel from your tank to your engine and drastically improve gas mileage.
