How much does it cost to repair a bike?

I would like to know aorund how much does it cost to repair the chain on a bicycle? The bicycle is kinda of old and isn't like the newer ones. The chain isn't broken but it came out of place and got jammed.

Go to Walmart and buy a new chain and a chain breaker for less then $20. If the chain is ok just put it back on.

Well, just take it to your LBS (Local Bike Shop) and let them fix it for you. It sounds like all it needs is for the chain to be unjammed and put back on the gears, and, if that's so, then it shouldn't cost much, maybe only, like 5 bucks or so.

Be aware, however, that they will try to sell you a new chain or even a whole new bike so, be prepared to have someone do the whole salesman thing on you when you bring it in to be fixed because local bike shops are hurting right now in this economy so they try to make a sale whenever they can.

even though some bike shops may be hurting, I NEVER personally sell the customer anything he/she does NOT need. That does not make for a good bike shop or a good salesman and for your chain, I would put it back on right inside the front door and you wouldnt even have to go back to the service counter and I would NOT charge you for doing that-nothing. I may recommend a new chain for you but I will NOT sell one if it isnt absolutely necessary!
