I have a 2001 Pontiac Aztec which I bought used 8 months ago. the vehicle started acting funny on me and I went to get it checked out. I was told that the issue was a piston rod bearing that needs to be fixed. I didn't want to get caught up in overpaying for a service so I'm wondering what's the fair/average price for fixing this?

When you are talking rod bearing, you're talking money. the engine must be removed & rebuilt, or find a decent used engine. 800 - $1300. (rebuilt). . .so much for the good deal on a used vehicle.

A connecting rod bearing would make a loud knock, not make a car act funny. To repair a rod bearing, the crankshaft must be removed and machined, or it must be replaced. This usually requires changing all the rod and main bearings. If you were to throw in some compression rings, it would be a full engine rebuild.

You're talking thousands. Most people would opt for a used engine as opposed to doing this repair.

A little more info. needed. A rod bearing won't make a car "act funny" it will make a knocking noise and possibly cause low oil pressure. Sounds like you are being set up for a rip off. If you are at the dealer, get out and get a second opinion.
