An automatic trans for a corolla should be around $400. A junk yard is the place to go. Fancy name for a junk yard = Used Auto Parts.
 
would say no more than 250 used... check at your local junk yard... this would be the best place. They usually have them, set aside, salvaged from wrecked cars.. They also usually come with a warranty should it not work... Look in the phone book, give the exact make and model of the car. They should give you a good price, maybe 100-300 dollars. Had a friend found his that way, and it runs fine. You can do that or pay the 1800 I had to fix my transmission, from a reputable ( not really) shop, it broke down and they returned my money.... If you know someone who will put it in, great, maybe they will give you a discount on labor...
 
Prices can run anywhere from $250 to over $1000. Used transmission implicates purchasing on at a local wrecking/salvage yard.
