How much do "martial arts sticks" cost?

I'm planning to join a martial arts club, but there is a requirement I didn't know, and that is to buy martial arts sticks, or fighting sticks. According to the sponsor, these will be needed for self-possession, training at school and at home. Are these sticks really necessary? What exactly are these fighting sticks, are they escrima sticks I've been looking at in the internet? How much does the cheapest cost?

Escrima are a pair of about two feet long sticks. they vary depending where you buy them.
the Bo is a longer stick, normally about as tall as you are. Its a single staff and they cost a bit of money.

Pretty much, theres a lot of "fighting sticks" so ask your instructor.

They probably want you to get escrima sticks. Depends on which ones you get. If you're not actually training escrima / kali / arnis you don't need to worry too much about the quality as long as they're rattan. If you're training escrima / kali / arnis and/or are going to be seriously hitting them around then make sure you get good ones.

http://bloodsport.com is where I usually get my rattan ones. I like getting the pack of 10 uglys: http://bloodsport.com/product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=39

$36 for 10 uglys
otherwise $10-14/each
These are good sticks.

If you want some sticks that will almost never break (but might also break other people's weapons), look into the Cold Steel polypropylene sticks. I did a review of them here: http://martial.jessecrouch.com/2009/05/cold-steel-polypropylene-kali-escrima.html
They're $16-20/each

Here's a video showing weapon flex and the Cold Steel polypropylene ones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZq6ylw75Sc
