How much do authors make?

How much does an author of a 3600 middle grade chapter book make? One that sells averagly? I dont want to make a living as an author. Another question is how much does and editor cost. And what do I need to get first, an agent or an editor? Thx so much!!!

3600 words? That's barely a short story.

The average earnings for a published author in the UK are one quarter of the national average wage - i.e. the vast majority of authors who get paid at all don't get paid enough to live on.

You need an editor first - or do what almost everyone does and edit your own book. No agent will look twice at something you haven't edited yet.
