How much can I expect a decent redline BMX bike is going to cost me in

Australia and other things i cant fit? Okay, here is the story.
Im a teenage female and i'm about 5'2" if i'm lucky. I don't do BMX as a sport, i just think the bikes are more attractive rather than mountain bikes. *Shudders*
The main issue is the cost.. So how much is one that would suit me going to cost? (I've looked at redline's website and even if girly coloured ones are cheaper i don't care. I will not ride a pink bike.)
The other problem is that my Dad thinks that mountain bikes are more appropriate. His argument is: "You will get more exercise because you'll be able to stay on the bike longer if you can ride up hills."
My argument.. I think, that if i got a BMX bike, i would have to put in more effort to ride it, then i'd get more exercise. Not to mention all the muscles i'd use if i got off and pushed. (Joking.)
I was talking to my friends, who are much taller than me... and they think that too small for a mountain bike anyway. I'd look WEIRD riding one. Like a chicken perched on top of a penny farthing.
Please help me, internety people. I hate mountain bikes. Help me convince my Daddy.

Have just realised that I sound really vain and up myself with all this hate on how mountain bikes look. Im not vain. I'm just teeny..
Another thing i just remembered... last time i rode my sister's mountain bike, i braked too abruptly and almost went head over head.
So its not just cosmetic. I'm freaked of them. I can't do it.
Please help.
Any of it is appreciated and the best answer will get 5 stars.
xx
