i was just wondering how many unlock codes can we request from tmobile with in a time frame.last time i called them up they told me i just requested one and i have to wait for 3 months and then another rep just put my request through.

Think it depends on who you talk to. I have also been told by one rep that you have to wait for 1 year with t-mo, and another put it right through. Now, this was like two years ago that I requested my last unlock code.

Well the rule is that you have to be their customer for at least 3 months. The rest is hazy and even the reps do not know off hand.

They can put up a request anytime, but it might or might not get approved.

It all depends upon the rep putting it in and the rep who is approving it. Whether they had a good day or a bad day, good mood or a bad mood, what quality score they got when they were last monitored, whether it is a weekend, or maybe the guys average call time is more than the 10 minutes auth by tmobile/client logic and he/she just wants you off the phone, or maybe the agent is dying to go to the washroom (they are not allowed to go outside their brakes) and puts you on a 2 min hold presumably to check out things for you and goes to the washroom, then comes back and tells you no way and adds "Is their anything else I can do for you".

The best thing to do is to thank the rep, hang up and call again and chances are that you will find a rep who will just do it for you. Always be nice and you will get your way. The rules are there but they are all flexable. You might be surprised to know that the supervisor can actully give you a credit of $ 200 if you present your case properly and are consistent. On the other hand if you are nasty because you have been holding for 20 minutes you might get the standard $ 5 for the inconvinence caused.

Also call on weekend morning to get to the rep in the shortest possible time.

Hope this helps

Regards

The rule of thumb from t-Mobile is 2 total and 90 days apart with an account in good standing (per line and individual number). If you aren't a t-mobile customer anymore but were, two total 90 days apart, but nothing after 6 months from when your account closed. If you have a multi-line account, this rule would be in effect for each number you have on billing.

This seems to be their standard within their customer service... Now, you may talk to someone that doesn't know their standard rule and allow it to go through... luck and mood of the cs plays a lot into it. MUCH luck!

I've been told it's unlimited unlockings (not 2) spaced 90 days apart, and no sooner than 90 since activation. I've had 3 devices unlocked so far, the Pearl will be my 4th when i get around to it. One of the tier 2 techs mentioned once that the more you've renewed contracts the more leniant the rules are, but your mileage may vary of course.

When I first switched to T-Mo some 2-3 years ago I was headed out of the country in two weeks; they were nice and bent the rules and unlocked my device right away (well, within a week) even as a new customer. That was my first "wow these guys are cool" moment and I've felt the same ever since about T-Mo.

Offtopic corallary from another forum, I just got a free RIM charger yesterday reaffirming my T-Mo cool factor:

Again this is one of those taboo things I believe t-mob has a freedom to act open with the fore mentioned considerations, already considered. I believe its unlimited myself personally

According to policies, rivviepop is right. Every 90 days you can request another unlock code for a T-Mobile branded phone. The only phones they carry that they don't unlock are the Sidekicks, due to data issues. (Unlocked T-Mo SKs on other networks still use T-Mo's data and T-Mo gets billed for it. I think that is what happened.)

Has anyone contacted them about unlocking T-Mobile devices that weren't purchased directly from them. I'm a T-mobile customer and I have a blackberry that I got from another T-mobile customer in a trade. It's not a phone that I got from T-Mobile so they wouldn't have a record of it in my file... do they give subsidy codes out in this type of senario?

I have unlocked two phones by T-Mobile that I have purchased through Craigslist. As long as you meet the above requirements, you will be able to.

1 unlock every 90 days per subscriber excluding if you need to do an exchange on the phone. If you do an exchange you do not need to wait til you get to 90 days to request the unlock.
