How many times has this happened?

How many times has someone claimed to have came up with the orinigal idea for a cartoon, and said that it at has been stolen from him/her? I mean, one example is the Troy Walker vs. Viacom thingy, in which some freelance cartoonist is sueing Viacom 'cause he came up with the idea of Spongebob. (Still has yet to be resovled.)

Well, there was that little dust-up over Disney's The Lion King, rumored to have been ripped off from Osamu Tezuka's Jungle Emperor. The evidence is pretty damning, although in fairness to Disney, most of the criticism came from anime fans. Tezuka's estate and his production company, which safeguard's his copyrights, never made an issue of it.

On the ridiculous end on the spectrum, John Kricfalusi claimed that Matt Stone and Trey Parker ripped off the idea for Mr. Hankey, The Christmas Poo, from one of John K.'s own characters. It was an indication of how low John has fallen to think that there was an actual benefit to be had making an issue over the intellectual ownership of talking fecal matter.

Heh... I always though Akira Toryama came up with the whole talking poop thing. I love John K... but someone's clearly bitter that another show got away with more than his was able to.

When I do have an idea for a cartoon I never post about it or tell anyone. Chances are some person may steal my idea and not even give me credit for it. I don't want to end up with rip-offs before I ever do release my cartoon. That's why I never post in the drawing boards or any other place that invites me to tell people about my cartoon. When and if my cartoon is realeased it will first be completely unheard of by all tv watchers and internet surfers because I didn't even post about the cartoon in the first place. I can't trust anyone to keep my cartoon a secret.

Never reveal an idea without first getting a copyright on it and talking to a lawyer. You've got to protect your ideas so they'll stay yours.

Qft Silverstar. Since some cartoonists are bent on stealing other people's ideas because they can't come up with their own original ideas you can't trust anyone. Protecting my idea so that it'll stay mine is my first step towards releasing a cartoon. That may be years away but still this is good info.

No I'm not referring to anyone in particular. I'm just saying some people not all may steal my idea. And I certainly didn't mean you Tednut.

Thanks. Oh course I wouldn't steal your idea. I'm 13. What network will take a show idea from a thirteen year old? And, on a semi-unrelated note: Troy Walker really did created Bob Spongee in the early 90's.
