How many ride without the crash bar?

I took off my front crash guards this past season. They only take 5 minutes and they are on or off. They might be back on this season, but we shall see. I kinda like the looks.
 
I thought about removing them, but never got around to it, and they made a good place to mount my highway pegs. In 2006 on 5th Avenue in downtown San Diego at 25 mph, they turned out to be "a legsaver" when I was hit by and then pinned between a minitruck and a parked truck. The first part I ordered from Chicago HD was a new "crashbar". I gave it a nice coat of wax and put it on with the new engine work and exhaust and other goodies with the $6K check I cashed. I definitely don't think twice about the "engine guard" any more!
 
Mine saved my leg when I crashed into a barb-wire fence after being run off the road. Bag ripped up, bar scratched badly, me fine. I wouldn't take it off for nothing. I'm thinking that anyone that does take theirs off hasn't needed it yet :-)
 
I lke the way it looks on a touring bike plus where do you mount highway pegs without it?

I had a 2005 FXDI. Never wanted to put a crash bar on becuase I didn't like the way it looked. Ended up putting a mustache bar on but I never really liked the way that looked either.

I could't imagine riding 700 miles in a day without somewhere to put highway pegs in order to change riding position and stretch out.
 
I swear by my engine guards! Sure, I like the looks of a bike wthout them, but me being a practical man, I also like how they saved a bunch of damage to my bike when I had my one crash in 2005. I got high sided (4 miles from home, dodging a critter at 1:30AM at the end of a 700 mile ride,) and the front engine guard took the brunt of the crash. I got a broken collarbone out of the deal, but the bike only sustained $2600 in damage. My fairing, tank and handlebars were all untouched. I had to replace the engine guard, right floorboard and bracket, front fender, right saddlebag and muffler. If I had had rear engine guards at the time (I do now, but that's another story and it involves tequila,) I might have saved the saddlebag and muffler.
