How many of you don't get along with the same sex?

Like for example: do you feel that it's difficult to be real close friends because they always want to compete with you in some way, making it difficult, when all you want to do is be cool with them?

Like if your a attractive girl, and even though you want to be friends with other girls your age, they always make it difficult because they feel the need to compete with your beauty. Or who gets the most attention. Or who has the best tastes. Etc.

Or if your a successful guy, even though you want to be friends with other guys your age, they always make that difficult because they feel the need to compete and compare their successes with your successes. Like competing with who has the better car, who's smarter, who has the highest job status, makes the most money, who has teh prettiest woman, etc.

I'm a guy. I find that guys can never just be cool with me. They're always trying to compete with me on who is better, or has the most things, or the better job, etc. I just tried to talk to me brother about a new job and asked him for advice, and all he could do is get mad because he doesn't have the same paying job.

My wife has a hard time bonding with women her age. They always seem to want to compete with her with their beauty.

Anyone else had this experience?

Thoughts?

I think people are just competitive, regardless of gender. Though there may be a difference in what they compete about. Ether gender can/will compete about who has:

More friends, more money, a better job, more status, more beauty/handsomeness, better car, bigger house, more education.....

Frankly, I compete with myself. I try to do better because it makes me happy to do so. I don't need to " keep up with the Jones's".
