How many miles riding a bike would lose 1 pound on the scales?

Here's' the deal. Everybody is going to vary a bit, but generally, bicycling is good for weight loss because it burns a lot of calories. Riding at a moderate speed (12 – 14 mph) on an average bike you will burn approximately 235 calories per half hour.

Now, you need to drop about 500 calories a day to lose a pound a week, so if you ride for an hour a day and don't change your diet you should lose some weight over time, but don't expect miracles.

your best bet is to combine some sort of diet with exercise if you want to drop a few pounds

good luck

Distance is somewhat irrelevant in bike riding. Time is a much better measurement, and is what most all riders (professional and amateur) use to measure their training.

That said, your level of fitness also will determine how much fat you burn. Someone that is in good physical condition will burn more fat per hour than someone who doesn't exercise very often.

1 pound of body fat contains 3500 calories. That means if you were to lose 1 pound of fat over the course of 1 week WITHOUT exercise, you would have to reduce your calorie intake by 500 calories each day. The average person eats around 1500-2000 calories a day, so 500 calories is a significant amount. The other option is to BURN an extra 500 calories each day through exercise. Again depending on your body type and fitness level, it will take between 1-2 hours of exercise to burn 500 calories. Reducing or even eliminating junk foods (sweets, soda pop, chips, etc.) will help speed up the process as they are usually high in calories and contain little nutrition anyway.

It will depend on the terrain, the wind, the bike, your speed, your weight and fitness level. If you ride your bike regularly and get in pretty good shap you will burn a lot more calories even when you are watching TV. It will take a few weeks before you really start to see a difference. It takes a while to get turn your body into a fat burning machine. There are 3500 calories in a pound of fat.

depends on your fat. i have a low index so i could ride a bike for 3 or 4 hours before i lose anything except water, but you're supposed to stay hydrated... alos it depends on the terrain and the gear ratios you use and of course the tire pressure, crank length, wheel size...
