How many miles can I expect to get out of a 1996 Chrysler Concord before it dies?

My parents own a 1996 Chrysler Concord that has 102,000 miles on it.

I have been looking for a used toyota, honda or volkswagon or something else to possibly buy but, my parents said they'd sell their chrysler to me if i wanted and sell it to me for $1700.

I just don't know if its worth it?

My parents said they haven't had any major issues w/ the car yet but, the cost to repair different things in the car has gone up over the last several years. The car had been garaged for 13 outta the 14 yrs my parents had it but it gets driven nearly everyday.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea how many miles they can get outta the 1996 concord (on average) before it eventually dies or the costs get to be too much. I will not be putting that much money into that car If it ever got a major problem. What i asked/told my mom earlier is would this car be able to survive a 6 hour trip to upstate ny so i can visit a friend for a week and then travel the 6 hrs back home - she doesn't kno how it would be but, that she wouldn't trust it driving it that far. What do you think?

Would it be worth it for me to buy this car off of my parents or, would it be more worth it to buy a honda or toyota or something that is a more reliable car company esp since Chrysler is gonna be dying out soon anyways?!?! I just am not sure what to do!!
