How many is too much?...

In relation to the thread about American Pie 6, what films sequel do you think they should have quit at. My main ones are:

American Pie - 3rd was just bearable

Lethal Weapon - As above

Beethoven - 2nd

Shrek - the 3rd

Grease - the original - the 2nd should not have been made

Rocky - 3rd.

I think when any main character leaves they should just stop there. Also if there's a huge gap between films and sequels.

Any more?

Friday the 13th - the twentieth. Did they get that far? Same could be said for Halloween, Police Academy and Nightmare on Elm Streets.

First two Friday 13ths were okey.
First Halloween - should have stopped at one.
Police Academy - up to third one was watchable, then it became the same again and again and again.
Nightmare On Elm Street - first and third were good, the rest were rubbish.

Look Who's Talking (LWT Too, LWT Now). Shouldn't really have made any...

I don't know about Shrek.. Haven't seen the third one yet.

I think Police Academy has had a few out of the 7/8 which I would rather have not seen.. But I still think it has some life and more could be done with it.

Don't get me wrong. I love the Shrek films.

I just feel they will go into overdrive and each film so far has produced a happy ending. I mean they were married at the end of the original. At the end of the 2nd they were a happy family with Shrek finally being accepted. Now the third will be about them bringing up a mini Shrek and I guess Shrek being king and happy with it. Although they could go back to the swamp and Arthur be king. Who knows!

I predict the *4th* will be without the major characters (except Cameron Diaz who pledged her future to all Shrek sequels).

I feel the same with the Meet the Parents/Fockers films. I would love to see a "Meet the Little Focker" if they ever do a 3rd but it should stop after that. Them having a child is the end of it.

Beethoven and Father of the Bride films too - they got it right. Beethoven 2nd ended with him having a family of his own and the having a happily ever after. FOTB with George seeing Annie off happily married and with a child. He also had his other daughter and the story was finished.

This is all just my opinion of course. If Shrek 4/ "Meet the 2nd little focker" is made and a success I'd be happy. But all original characters mind! ;) :)

Re Police Academy I think they should have stopped at 4. Mahoney, Fackler, Zed and Sweetchuck (sp?) - 4 of my fave characters had left after the 4th. The 5th should not have been made. Saying that though neither should the 2nd - worst of the lot! That was the one with all Tackleberry's family being shown and was so boring. If its the one I'm thinking of.

The original, the 3rd and the 4th were the only ones I would say are any good. :)

Well The Last Crusade was basically a rehash of Raiders with Connery and Phoenix thrown in. At least this one has an original plot by the sound of it.

Alien should have ended with Aliens.

Blade should have finished at number two.

Spiderman could have done without three, and Evil Dead as well. Raimi doesn't have a good track with threequels.

I agree about Gladiator. Its been too long since the original.

Home Alone 2 defo! As soon as Macaulay Culkin left they should've buried it. Just looked at Wikipedia and there have been 4 films so far! Home Alone 5 is coming out in 2008. That is a no go!

I thought there were only 3 Terminator films?
