...founded? I'm wondering about Christian and Jewish peace groups, too.

I'm an agnostic, certainly fear the kind of religion - Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Hindu -- that inspires holy wars. Don't blame atheists for being totally opposed to that side of religion.

But hasn't there been another side, and a powerful one, that has operated for thousands of years now in Christian, Jewish and Muslim countries to promote learning and scholarship, to advance the practice of medicine, and to nag the wealthy and powerful in society into providing better care for the poor?

I'll just focus on one — universities. The prestigious Ivy League universities Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth were founded by the Puritans. The list of other such religiously-established universities is very long.
