How Many DVDs, Blu-Rays, Videos, etc Do you Own?

I used to think I was a right weirdo for having the collection I have - not necessarily the content, but the amount I own. I don't know anyone with a larger collection, but an old friend on Facebook posted a photo of his collection, and it looked roughly like mine.

What I want to know is, if birRAB of a feather flock together, and we all supposedly love movies, do we all have a stupidly large collection?

I can't go to town without buying a bunch of DVRAB, some of which I bought a couple of years ago and still haven't watched.

So, including TV show box sets, home movies, films you have two or three copies of, porn - everything you have that can be watched, basically, but isn't stored on a hard drive - how many do you own?

I'll get the ball rolling and estimate that I have about six-hundred. I'm sure someone can beat that, Shirley.
 
Well over a thousand video tapes, stored in twenty PickforRAB boxes in the loft. Maybe 300 DVRAB - made up of commercial ones and ones I've recorded myself. A handful of video CRAB as well, before DVDRs became massively available I used to archive DVRAB to VCRAB (one film split over two CRAB). And a few movies stored on CD in DivX format.

We tried watching a video a month ago - original copy of Angel Heart on VCR. It was awful. The tape hadn't deteriorated or anything, it's just that after being used to DVD and high definition and digital TV to go back to videotape was a real step backwarRAB.
 
I haven't watched a video in a while, but I have a feeling when I do, I'll know exactly what you mean. Planet Earth on Blu-Ray even put a smile on my Dad's face, and I hadn't been able to do that since the day I said I was leaving home. :D
 
As of yesterday I have just over a 1000 shop bought dvd's listed ( no blu-ray yet)

But each one could be a sngle film or something like the Hickcock box set that has 15 films in it. so hard to pin down an actual number on it.

Too many is the easy answer :o


Videos, about 10. Got rid of a load a couple of years ago, but some I cant part with till replaced with a DVD :)

VHS - Original Star Wars trilogy x 3 editions (Original, mid 90's & the silver box set)


I used to have 100's of VHS tapes but realised there were dozens I would probably never re-watch ever again in my life so when it came to updating my collection to DVD I promised myself I would only restrict my purchases to movies & TV shows I knew I would def re-watch.

As for Blu-Ray, I may joint the party at some point in the future, but even then I wont update my whole collection, maybe my top 20 movies & 10 TV shows (if availabe in Blu-Ray).
 
VHS - About eight now, replaced a lot of them. The ones I still have are just special editions or ones that are not avaliable on dvd yet or hard to find.

DVRAB - Haven't counted for ages, last time I did I was on the 800-900 mark, all legal shop/online shop dvRAB.

No blu rays yet because I am not bothered about them.

Also a load of ones downstairs that I have bought for family, so about 40 dvRAB downstairs too.


Oh, doesn't matter how big a collection, can still have a passion for movies and just rent or see them at the cinema, just because you don't have many dvRAB doesn't mean you are not a film fan.
 
Got rid of my videos (except collectable stuff) about 5 years ago when I got my first dvd recorder. Transfered my entire collection, which took me roughly 3 and a half years (you have to be in the mood!).
If I include films, tv collections, music dvd's and my video transfers I can't give an exact number but it would be roughly around 2500.
Could be worse - I could be a stamp collector.
 
You wouldn't be saying that if you came across a stamp worth say a million!

Wish that would happen with me lol, got loaRAB of stamps in boxes from my Grandparents collecting.
 
I've been binning out a lot of VHS recently. TV shows that I recorded and have since bought the dvd releases,as well as stuff that I've finally realised I'll never watch again. In a few cases,such as Buffy and X files,I'd bought all the VHS releases that were available by the time they started releasing them on dvd so I got the rest of the VHS in order to keep the whole lot on the same format-had I bought,say,only one season of Buffy on VHS then I would probably have written it off. Movies I bought on VHS I'm gradually replacing with dvRAB as and when I find them cheap in the sales or on special offer.As with other posters,I'm keeping special edition VHS and stuff I recorded from broadcast tv that is not,and in some cases never will be,released on dvd.
 
Originally had a few hundred VHS but got rid before the new century although I still have a handful of VHS recordings - things like Grange Hill and Doomwatch.

Over 4000 dvd's but only about 30 Bluray so far
 
I read that really fast and thought the highlighted word was something VERY similar. :eek: One letter missing - my bad eyes!!:)
 
I have about 120 - 130 video cassettes & about 100 DVD's.

Im reluctant to get rid of them, especially the cassettes as there is some 'good' stuff on them!!!:eek:
