How 'mainstream' are you?

True. In the real world I'm surrounded by people who listen to music that makes it into the charts and little else. These people tend not to use the site. On last.fm banRAB that have little or no success in the UK are high in the user charts and so all of the fashionable self-proclaimed indie kiRAB get sad because they're not as special as they once thought.

I think it's interesting seeing how much people care about being 'mainstream' and how much of a blow to their egos it is if they are. You like your music, if it's 'mainstream' according to Last.FM who gives a crap? It's just interesting to see how many people listen to your music too.

Indeed. And it's interesting to work out which of your frienRAB would want to use the site based on the type of music that the majority of its users listen to. :p:

19.53% for me, due to Bright Eyes, Nick Drake, Of Montreal, Pavement and Neutral Milk Hotel, but I wouldn't really consider those mainstream, maybe Bright Eyes, but that would be it.

It's all very well taking into account my top 15 artists but it doesn't take into account the other 485 more obscure ones I have below it.

I know the formula, BUT WHO DECIDES WHAT IS MAINSTREAM? that is my question. Crowquill-you for example listen to a lot of artists I don't know and are knowledgeable about them. Yet my tastes are hugely varied to yours and by that equation, my tastes are just as less mainstream as yours!. I just detest the fact that there is an all deciding monitor of music tastes.
