How long will you watch cartoons for??

What age or how long do you think you will watch cartoons or enjoy animation for? It's an odd/tough question I know.

I was done with cartoons from about 1998-2004 until I decided to buy some old cartoons on DVD while in a retro/nostalgia kick. I am now just getting back into the Saturday morning cartoon swing of things after a 13 year hiatus. I am 27 and will most likely enjoy cartoons for a long time to come.

I've been a fan of cartoons and anime series for over ten years now. Unfortunately, I'm suddenly starting to notice that I don't have the time or interest to keep up with new shows any more. Honestly, I think I'll only be a fan for a little more than a year.

I've never quit being a fan of cartoons. I guess I just never really grew up. And I have no intention to quit any time in the future.

Depends what cartoons you're talking about.

If you mean my favorites that are already cancelled and on DVD, then yeah, I'll rewatch them for time to come.

If you mean NEW shows, as in what's airing now or in the future, it depends entirely on the show. I watch far less cartoons now than I did say...5 years ago, and judging by the future that's probably not going to change.

I don't know, the cartoons of today just don't interest me as much with a few notable exceptions.

I agree. The shows I have on DVD I bought because I like and will probably watch them here and there for the rest of my life. Today shows aren't that good and only 2 really excite me, Di-Garda and Spectacular Spidey.

Forever. :D

Hey, it's my JOB! Or, future job once I finish school. Well... actualy I did commissions over the summer! I R CARTOOOOOONNNIIIIIST!!!

I've been watching cartoons my whole life and have never stopped, so why would I ever plan to?

It's Di-Gata Defenders, and if you don't mind my saying, unless you've seen every single one of today's cartoons, you can't accurately make a generalization that they all aren't that good. That remark smacks of old-school elitism (i.e., the belief that everything old is automatically good and everything new is automatically bad), and many of the people who say things like that have usually just written off every single cartoon beginning from a certain cutoff year (usually 1990) as being unwatchable garbage without even giving it a chance. I myself try to judge shows on an individual, case-by-case basis. Not every old cartoon is great and not every new cartoon is trite. My current bottom signature sums up my feelings towards old-school elitism.

I know it's called Di-Gata Defenders, I was using a shorter way of typing it, like Spidey instead of Spider-Man or He-Man instead of using Masters of the universe. Jeez.

The past 2 weeks I have been evaluating current cartoons and the two I said I liked were the ONLY ones I enjoyed. I don't speak on something unless I know what I am speaking about, I am not sticking to some old school mentality dude, I like what I like.

 Que? How is Di-Garda a shorter way of typing Di-Gata? There's no 'r' or 'd' in it and that's adding an extra character that you don't need.

I don't see how anyone can properly make an evaluation of every new cartoon in just 2 weeks (unless you just mean the new fall shows from 4Kids and CWKids, in which case you should've specified that), but whatever floats your boat.

It was a typo, since you added "Defenders" and made the name bold I thought you were insinuating I forgot the second part of the title.

By today cartoons I did mean the current crop, sorry for not explaining that but when I mentioned the 2 cartoons I figured that would sum up the time frame for my evaluation. Maybe you should try to not be so literal and try to get the "jist" of things.

It's hard not to be 'literal' on a medium of communication based around the written word, no? I'm not a cyberpath who can receive mental visions of everything a person means just by viewing the typed words on the screen; I wish I was, but I'm not. I posted a response based on what I saw typed, as did you. So I'd say we're even.

-Anyway, to get back on topic, here's my "gist": I'm an animation fan for life. I'll be watching cartoons as long as I can draw a breath.

I'm 23 now, and I don't see my love of animation ever leaving. Sure, I haven't seen many recent animated series catch my interest, but there are still a few out there. And even if television animation goes to pits, there are plenty of toon DVDs to keep me occupied for the rest of my life.

Honestly, I've never found live action to be as engaging. The only show I actually go out of my way to watch is Heroes. everything else (which usually amounts to reruns of I Love Lucy or some form of documentary) is just filler for me, taking up time until the next good cartoon comes on.

As long as there are good cartoons and animated movies around, I'll continue to enjoy them. Heck, a few years ago I happened to be up early on a Saturday and was watching a block of Looney Tunes while eating breakfast. My dad came downstairs and decided to watch the rest of them as well before heading out to start the yard work. Good ones just never grow old.

I can imagine that one might outgrow certain cartoons, or look back on cartoons they once enjoyed and not care for them years later, but I foresee myself continuing to enjoy animated material for a very long time.

Well I am over 30 and plan to watch them till I die. TV is stopped up with reality trash and sex related muck. Toons are the only shows that give me the sci-fi programs that I crave. Avatar, JLU are some recent favs.

The way I look at it 99% of toons are written, directed and produced by adults...most of them by old farts like myself. So why shouldn't I watch something drawn and created by my own age group? :)

I don't think it'll ever be possible for me to stop watching cartoons, that's like saying "how long will you watch tv for?" and sure it's entirely possible to stop watching tv but I don't think I or most people here will do taht. There will always be enjoyable tv programs and cartoons are included in that. I don't see how I could stop.

:D Damn straight.:D Plus cartoons are tradition in my family. Everyone watches them, and they watch them with their kids and then their grandkids.
