The UAW is over paid and underproductive, who would hire them?

Hopefully some investors will buy Chrysler and hire some people who will work for reasonable wages and benifits.

Taxpayers will keep it afloat indefinitely long.

Not long. It will just be a lot smaller in future, and renamed Fiat, and it will make different cars. Mostly in China and Italy and places.

We had a car industry in the UK once. It was shut down by the unions.
