How long to wait to take a pregnancy test?

Well I normally get my period at the end of each month I thought I was going to get mine but the cramping was weird it would go away then come back then my period was 3 days late so I took my test and I'm 8 weeks pregnant now.

so I would say wait a few days and if you still haven't gotten your period take a HPT.
 
My periods are not very regular, but I generally start between the 10th to 15th of the month. I was wondering if someone could tell me how long I should wait before I take a HPT. I know everything says wait 5 days after your missed period, but is that 5 days after when you are supposed to start or 5 days after it should be over?
 
Usually if your first day of your period is the 15th..you're supposed to wait 5 days after that..like the 20th try to do the pregnancy test..
to be sure..but sometimes even earlier it tells you if you pregnant or not..good luck!
