How long should I wait on a book proposal response?

Recently (about four weeks ago), I've sent the first fifty pages of my manuscript out to a literary agent (as requested) and am wondering how long I should wait before contacting the agent to ask about it.

I don't want to seem too pushy or to become a pest, but if she doesn't want it, I'd like to know so I can start sending the query letter back out to other agents.

Please help!
 
Be aggressive. Made contact with several agents and submit what they require (first three chapters, or fifty pages, etc.). Some agents specialize in genres, so you don't want to put all your eggs in one basket.

If several respond positively, then you can decide which one has the best offer.
