How long should I stay out of sports after experiencing a very hard hit to the head?

On Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. I received a very hard hit to the side of my head while playing basketball. I've had a very light lingering headache since, and some trouble focusing on one thing, mentally, for very long. I have two practices on monday and a game on tuesday. Should I miss the practices? Should I miss both the practices and the game? I didn't black out during the hit and the physical trainer at the school I was playing at when the hit happened didn't suspect that I had a concussion. Any thoughts? My mom doesn't want to take me to the doctor so I need another opinion.

An injury to the head should always be checked out. It's best to have x-rays taken, along with a CAT scan. These tests will indeed tell what, if anything is going on. I'm surprised that your mom doesn't want to take you to the doctor. It's best to be safe than sorry, when such injuries occur. A PT is no doctor & he shouldn't be acting like one. If your mom is listening to him, it may turn out to be a big mistake. My advice to you is NOT to attend practices & the game, since you are having headaches & trouble focusing. You must, somehow, get your mom to take you to a doctor as soon as possible. Again, tell her exactly how you're feeling. I wish you the very best.
