how long should i stay on my exicise bike?

It will depend on how hard you are ridding. You want to take it easy for the first 10 min to warm up. After the warm up you want to pedal at 70-90 rpm's with just enough resistance to get your breathing to the point where you can still talk but not sing. If you need to catch your breath or your legs start to hurt drop down on the resistance to recover and keep going at 70-90 rpm's. If you are not breathing faster or sweating you are not getting much out of it.

A session of 40 - 60 min is plenty good if you are working hard enough to keep your breathing elevated.

As long as you want really.

I would say that exercise bikes tend to have quite big padded saddles. These can get pretty uncomfortable after a while. They will also teach you a rather unconventional cycling position, which may be a problem if you want to transfer your cycling to the road.
