How long should a synopsis be?

I'm sending my manuscript to a publishers soon and they require synopsis - how long should it be? Is it a brief version of the book? Example someone? E.g. Harry Potter? Ty =]

Btw please don't send me links of books on how to do it - i just want a quick answer

Is it a novel? No more than 3 pages, if it is. If you can do it in 1, so much the better.

Don't worry about putting everything in. Just enough to intrigue them, and to convince them that you've got a complete story: beginning, middle and end.

After they've read the synopsis they should feel as if they want to read the book - not as if they've read it already.
