How long into a film can you tell whether or not if you're going to like it?

Ooo errr, i'd say the first 10-15 minutes! It has to have a gripping beginning for me to continue watching all the way through to the end.

I can tell straight away! well within the first couple of minutes. If a film starts badly it's hard for it to recover in my eyes because i'll always remember how bad it started!

I always decide at the end whether i liked the film or not.
Some films are just slow in the beggining, but i'll still watch them with interest just incase theres a twist or suprise at the end.

Good examples are, The Shining and Sleepaway camp.

Most within about 15 minutes but there are some that build up and I can usually tell If I will get into it or not. Sometimes though you can tell after a few minutes.

Probably within the first few minutes, but definitely by the end of the first half hour. Mum, on the other hand, will watch an hour and a half of a 2 hour film and then decide she doesn't like it enough to watch the ending!

I'm getting worse in my old age. If a film isn't interesting in the first 2 minutes I get impatient with it! :o
The worst thing is when you've sat through a film that's terrible, thinking "it might get better in the last 20 minutes" - but it inevitably doesn't. :(

(a friend of mine once said "I haven't enjoyed the last 2 series of Dallas" !!!

I always watch a film til the end, doesn't matter how crap it is. Then I can say I've seen it. If you only watched the first 10 minutes, then how can you say you've seen it.

I once turned a film off after the first 10 minutes.

I was told to go back and watch it, as it was one of the greatest films of all time.

So I did, and after the opening few minutes, I really enjoyed it.

That movie was Star Wars.

It varies a bit, but probably 2-3mins: by then you probably know what sort of film it is, and have a rough idea of the subject matter. The more off-beat a film is, the longer it takes to get a good impression of it.

Wild Hogs - first 30 seconRAB, and I was wondering why four good actors had wasted their time on it. (Well 2 good actors, one good comedy actor and Tim Allen :D :D ).

I usually have an idea after about 5-10 mins although I do give it a fair go. I usually feel that by the 30mins stage, if things haven't become interesting then it won't get any better.
