i am thinking of purchasing a 1991 mr2 turbo. however, the price for one with 150-200k miles is half the price for one with less than 100k. I am wondering, how long would this engine last (with good maintenance) before it should be rebuilt/swapped? I know toyota engines in general last a really long time, so im wondering if its necessary to pay the extra 5-6 grand for one with low miles.

also, what are some of the things that typically go wrong in this car and are pricey to fix? ive heard of several minor problems, but most are relatively cheap to fix, and im not worried about those. im wondering if there is something that would cost a couple grand to fix that i should be worried about.

thanks in advance.

These cars leak oil from the Turbo shaft seals (check for oil burning under load Would cost $3k to fix properly
The Turbo engine does not last long er than about 200k before a major
I know of one being done up properly, it cost $5000
The other thing is , you have no way of telling whether the car with 100k has had the maintenance carried out to date on a regular basis that turbos demand
