How long does it take to learn php?

I have been reading some online tutorials for php and have learnt alot already, but was just wondering how long it will take until I have a thorough understanding of it. Lol, I know thats a difficult question to answer I just want to know: as a general rule of thumb how long does it take to learn the language?
 
You will be learning the language as long as you keep working in it. There will always be new things you discover you can do and areas you can try to stretch your wings. I'm constantly trying to do new and different things in all sorts of languages.
As you stated, it's a tough question to answer, but I think as long as you keep your mind open that there are new things to learn in the language then you can start to consider yourself skilled. The bottom line is can you do what you want with the language? Push yourself forward from there.
