Also, what careers can I pursue with this degree? I really like environmental science and the study of the Earth's history.

A chemistry degree is generally 4 years long. If you're in the UK, have a look at the UCAS website for degrees throughout the UK, and also subjects you can combine it with. For example, if you're interested in environmental science then lots of universities, like Aberdeen, Birmingham, and even Cambridge do Environmental Chemistry.
