How long does it take to become a bike cop?

I'm not a cop, butj I have considered it as long as I could be a bicycle cop. How long does that take after you join the force?
Do people enter with the expressed goal of becoming a bicycle cop? could it be immediately upon joining and after training, or would it take months or years?
 
In my department you have to take the IPMBA bike class first then you have to put in a letter of interest. Our department is so big you need to be on a special unit at one of the precincts or in a park unit..
