I was wondering what the flat rate was for a garage since I was quoted a price of 1600 bucks for labor to have it done. seems very high even at 100 bucks an hour.

According to all data 17.3 hours. If you have never done anything like this before you can pretty much double or triple it.

REMOVAL

Disconnect the battery negative cable.
Remove the front fascia.
Raise vehicle on hoist.
Remove exhaust crossover pipe from exhaust manifolds.

Install Engine Lifting Fixture Special Tool 8347 (Fig. 41) following these steps:
Holding the lifting fixture at a slight angle, slide the large bore in the front plate over the hex portion of the lifting stud.
Position the two remaining fixture arms onto the two lifting studs in the cylinder heads.
Pull toward and upward on the lifting fixture so that the lifting stud rest in the slotted area below the large bore.
Secure the lifting fixture to the three studs using three 7/16 - 14 N/C locknuts.
Make sure the lifting loop in the lifting fixture is in the last hole (closest to the throttle body) to minimize the angle of engine during removal.
Disconnect body ground strap at the right side cowl. NOTE: It will be necessary to support the transmission in order to remove the engine.
Position a suitable jack under the transmission.
Remove the engine mount through bolts.
Raise engine slightly, then remove both left and right side engine mounts from engine.
Remove engine from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION

Position engine in the vehicle.
Install both left and right side engine mounts onto engine. Position both the left and right side engine mount brackets and install the through bolts and nuts.
Install transmission to engine mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) .
Remove jack from under the transmission.
Remove engine lifting fixture special tool 8347 (Fig. 41).
Connect ground straps on the left side of the engine.
Install power steering pump.
Connect fuel supply line quick connect fitting.
Connect engine harness at the following points (Fig. 40):
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor
Idle Air Control (IAC) Motor
Fuel Injectors
Throttle Position (TPS) Switch
Engine Oil Pressure Switch
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor
Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor
Coil Over Plugs
Install generator.
Install radiator.
Install A/C condenser.
Connect radiator lower hose at the thermostat housing.
Connect the transmission oil cooler lines to the radiator.
Install A/C compressor. Tighten the A/C compressor and generator M10 mounting bolts 40 - 68 Nm (30 - 50 ft. lbs.) and the M8 bolts 22 - 34 Nm (200 - 300 in. lbs.) .
Install accessory drive belt, fan assembly and shroud.
Install breathers, then connect tube to both crankcase breathers (Fig. 39).
Connect throttle and speed control cables.
Install throttle body resonator assembly and inlet hose.
Raise vehicle.
Connect two ground straps on the lower left hand side of the engine and one ground strap on the lower right side.
Install torque converter bolts.
Connect crankshaft position sensor (Fig. 38).
Install starter.
Install rubber splash shield. CAUTION: The structural cover requires a specific torque sequence. Failure to follow this sequence may cause severe damage to the cover.
Install structural cover.
Install exhaust crossover pipe.

How skilled are you?

If you've done it before, 4-5 hours.

If you have no idea....which is indicated by the fact that you had to ask how long.....it'll take all day. Maybe several days.
