How long does it take for "Ick" disease to go away after first treating...

...tropical fish of it? I just only noticed it on my newly bought Headlight-Taillight Tetra about 5 days ago and started treating my whole tank right away, just in case any others had it and just hadn't shown signs of it yet, but the Tetras say on the bottle to only do half the dose that you would give other fish, well now 2 of my rainbow sharks are showing signs of it on the sides of their bodies, I have had them for quite some time now and they have grown pretty large, so I hate to lose them to some disease that I got from a pet shop, not happy 'bout that at all....
Anyways I was just wondering how long this takes, the bottle only says "treat till gone" no hint of how long the process takes, anyone know, please help?
Oh yeah, I had originally gotten 2 of the Headlight-Taillight Tetras, but after putting in the tank, when I looked a few days later, I couldn't find but one and he had the disease, the other one's carcas was at the bottom of the tank-devoured, meaning that there's a big possibility that the bigger fish ate him, possibly the others too, I'm guessing by them eating it the others could have acquired the disease that way.
And that sucks too, cuz pet stores only give a 48 hr (2 day) guarantee, hardly enuf time for the infected ick fish to start showing signs, in some cases.
