how long does it take for google and other search engines to publish my web site?

I have recently created a website for a relative www. awbuilder.co.uk
They wanted it put on several search engines including google. I submitted to them about four days ago but it still isn't coming up on any of them. Does it take a certain time for them to go on?? help...
