How long does it normally take to get an outdoor cat used to becoming an indoor cat ?

He IS TAME and a very good pet.
But original owners just let him grow up and live outdoors mostly.
He adopted us 2 years ago, and we'd like to make him an indoor cat --and yes completely indoors since we live in an area where there's a lot of ticks infected w/Lymes disease [I had it last yr.] and never want to get that junk again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, ........ in order for him to get prepared to live indoors, I'd have him get a nice solid flea/tick bath at the vet's office.
He's gotten sick outdoors too and from what [in THE PAST] --we do not know.
He healed and this was last summer.
I just don't want him wandering all about outdoors getting into stuff and getting sick like that again.
He's very healthy, and we have room for one more indoor feline.
He loves it here!! --it's just he's so accustomed be being outdoors a lot.
I'm not so sure I can change that.
 
You will have to put up with a lot of "crying" for a few months - but he will adjust. Just stay strong and don't give in - changing him to an indoor cat is much better for him. The real reason I wanted to answer this, though, is your statement of "we have room for one more indoor feline". You already have indoor cats? If you do - you are going to need to make sure the vet also tests the outdoor cat for Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids, you don't want to risk spreading that to the other cats.
 
be patient its going to take some time at least 3 months i think. It will be well worth the wait though. Depends on how fast the cat reacts to becoming an inside pet.

Your going to have start to slowly, gradual reduce the time he left outside, then eventual once you get it down to 5mintues you've weaned him into being indoors

It is possible to train a outdoor cat to be indoors! No matter how long they be outdors, but its NOT the same as indoor cat converting to outdoors that just not fair- the indoor cats develop no road sense, so are at very high risk of being run over.

There another option is to attachj an outdoor encloser to the house
