how long does confusion, hallucinations, agitation last after taking ambien?

father was given ambien to help his sleep in hospital, since he was given pill he's been agitated, confused, hallucinating. He had the pill around 9 or 10 last night. It' now 12:45 p.m.

Oh dear. It should have worn off by now but I don't like the idea of the hallucinations at all, call the doc now and see if they can give another drug to calm this down. A small amount of an antipsychotic would do the trick I think and help him sleep. if he gets into that state again please call the doctor right away as hallucinations are serious and he may have done anything in that state.

Hope it gets sorted fast

The drug itself has a short half-life - meaning that every 3 hours or so, the level in the blood drops in half. After 12 hours or so, there is still a trace in the blood, and ambien is very potent. Plus, the effects on the brain take time to heal, even after the drug is gone. Ambien is a drug from hell, and some people don't react well to it. The effects from taking it can easily last 24 hours

There is also the other drugs they have probably given him to consider. You definitely want to tell his Doctor this, if they don't already know.
