My boyfriend and I were hit on his motorcycle 4 days ago and the lady that hit us did not have insurance. My boyfriend sells Harley s for a living and just got a new bike. He did not have insurance on his new bike but did on his old bike that he sold. He paid for insurance for a year on the old one. We were told that you have 30 days from the day of purchase to transfer the insurance to the new bike and it is covered. I just wanted to know if this is true and what the circumstances are if it is true? Thanks for your time!

I suppose it depends on your insurance company. Historically, I've always contacted my insurance company (State Farm) prior to purchasing the new bike or directly after signing the papers. They need the VIN and model numbers so you're properly insured. If I were you, I wouldn't waste any time, especially if he already paid the year's premium.
