im looking to buy a 1999 jeep cherokee 4.0L L6 FI with 146,500 miles on it, just curious how long this transmission/engine can go on? im familiar with toyota and hondas but im on a budget and this jeep is nice. sources would be nice

the 4.0 l6 motors are great we had 190,000 on our 95 before we sold it no major problems with it. today its got 204,000miles on it and only thing guy did to it was added a new battery. my dads friend has 285,000 on his 99 cherokee no major problems

I had the same car except a 94. It was such a good car, it lasted me forever (as long as I took care of it). The previous owner had basically driven it into the ground (no tune ups or even oil changes), but it was a great car... it lasted me years, got driven all over CA and was very fun.

If you just take care of it you can get 200-300K miles on it easy. Jeeps are great cars. I never used to like them cuz the stigma of USA cars being crappy, but I would definately buy another one!

They are also pretty cheap to fix and most people who know a thing or two about cars can work on them pretty easy! Also really easy to get parts for!

My mom has a 1998 jeep cherokee with over 5000 miles on it! Shes not looking into buying a new car anytime soon. She says she loves her car
