How long do I have to wait until a pregnancy test will tell me if I am preggers or not?

I'm 20. Just got married!! Woot woot!! I saved myself until marrige (it was hard but, yay for me!) A month into our marriage on September 12, me and my hubby are going at it, and we COMPLETE and all, and when he pulls out, the condom is completely busted to bits. I don't take birth control because I believe it messes you up. My last period started on August 19th or 20th. I've read that you have to wait at least a month for a pregnancy test to give good results, BUT, if my period is supposed to be soon, will it tell me if I am preggs after only a week and a half of the 'incident'? Or do I have to wait until I miss my period or something? I don't want to waste a pregnancy test if it's not gonna work (them darn things are expensive!!!)I'm new at this. Thanks in advance for your answers.
 
If I were you, I'd wait until you are supposed to get your next period, Dont drink or smoke just in case, and if your period doesnt come this month ( september ) Then get a pregnancy test.... If it is negative but you are still convinced you may be pegnant, there is no harm in going to see a doctor.
