How long do DNA test results for a homicide really take to come in? My boyfriend...

...was murdered.? I don't want to ask on here but it's worth a shot to me at this point. Tomorrow is the one month mark my boyfriend was killed. I believe he was shot. Nothing has been confirmed to me by detectives. His truck was stolen and later found in the desert burnt, so I have heard. No confirmations, as it is still being investigated. That's probably all I can say or want to say on here.....Detectives helped relocate me.....it is obvious to me by that, that they have someone in mind. So, I can't sleep, can't stop thinking and very hard to live life. I have 2 lil boys that he was like a father to. Anyway, are there any professionals that answer on here? Or people who have been in a situation like this? I feel the detectives have to know, yet how long before they can arrest? How long to DNA results take? I would imagine they'd be rushed for something like this......
 
From what I've heard on the news, DNA is process in a central database to match any CONVICTED offenders. If the person that murdered your boyfriend have never been convicted of any criminal activity, his or her DNA will not show up in the database.

I wouldn't trust the police much for their efforts, they only do the bare minimum unless you are one of their own or know a powerful figure.

It really depends on the jurisdiction. In LA County some DNA tests are taking far far too long. Others are pretty quick. It all depends on what lab(s) the police agency contracts with, the details of their agreement, and the particulars of the case. Having DNA evidence to test does not mean they'll get a confirmation from it, unless it matches someone in a database or they have another known sample to compare to. Then there's also the consideration of different sample types and quality, and running confirmation tests if needed.

In a nutshell, they won't make an arrest until they're reasonably certain they can get a conviction. This could be days, or it could be years. The detectives in the case should tell you as much as they can, but they can't tell you everything.
 
It can sometimes take months. It depends on a lot of factors. The police send DNA material out to a lab to be tested, and it depends on whether the lab is extremely busy or what the priority is of the particular case. If you live in a large city or a place with a high number of homicides/rapes, then the lab will have a greater caseload and it will take longer. And while his death is extremely important to you, it may not be a top priority of the police. I don't mean that to be harsh, just the reality that some deaths are not as important to the police as others. They have to prioritize. I don't know anything about the case, or the city/state, or the circumstances of his death so I don't know if it would receive high priority or not. Good luck.
