How long can I keep a ball python in a 20g tank?

I have an extra 40 gallon tank and thought about dividing it in half to keep two ball pythons in. I would be getting the ball pythons as babies.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me a length of the snake or an "estimated" time on how long I can keep a ball python in that divided area before it out grows that space.

The dimensions would be 18L x 18W x 16H per snake.

At the time/length the snake outgrows that divided space, I would buy an extra 40g tank for it. I do not want to put a baby snake in a 40g to start, as I have read and heard multiple times that ball pythons feel "intimidated" or uncomfortable in large spaces.

I've always gone by an easy rule that tells me when my snakes are too large for their enclosure....

if when they stretch out they are much longer than the length of the cage....consider getting a new one ;-)

....you can make sure a small snake doesn't feel 'intimidated' by making sure he/she has places to hide :-)
