how long can i have to wait until the pill works before having sex?

All pills are different. Some are within 6 hours, some are after a full cycle (1 month)
Ask your doctor, or read the pamphlet that came with it.
 
If you are new to taking the pill, you should take it for a full month, an entire cycle to be safe. I also suggest condoms to give you a bit more security and to prevent STDs.

Think hard - are you sure you are ready? Even when you take precautions, there is still a chance . . . are you really ready?
 
If you are really trying to be careful, they say to use condoms for the first month of taking the pill...It needs to build up in your system, and not knowing this before, that's how i got pregnant TWICE. We started having sex without condoms after only a week of me being on the pill, but the doctors say a full cycle is about how long it takes to become fully (99%) effective.
 
You don´t really have to wait. You can have sex 24 hours after she has started using her pills.

If she misses her pill, it is goes more than 24 hours she may have to take 2 and then you will have to use a condom for a week at the same time she is taking the pill.
But this depends on the brand of pills. There are a million different types of birth pills, you really need to read the instructions with your girlfriend thoroughly.
If the instructions are in a different language in case you live in a foreign country, then just "google" the name of them.

Definatly just read the instructions and GO AND HAVE SEX WOOOO HOOO YOUR THINKING. :)
