I looking into buying a Jeep Cherokee.
Cherokee XJ with the 4.0L straight 6 and automatic.
I'm looking at 1991-1998 Cherokee's. Alot of the 91-96's have 210,000 km - 250,000 km ( 130,000 miles - 155,000 miles). 1998's have around 180,000 km (112,000 miles) and sell for around $6,000. Sometimes can get lucky and find one for just over $4,000.
Around $4,000 is my limit. The prices seem to be all over the place. Some are low and some are steep in price.
All of the 91-98 Cherokee's I am looking at have been well maintained, never offroad, all stock/unmodified, no rust on body/frame, no accidents and original owner or 2nd owner. 91-96 are within my price range with money to spare.
Continuing to search. In no rush to buy.
A few examples:
1992 Cherokee Laredo with power options, well maintained, 238,000 km. (147,000 miles). New radiator, New brakes, New muffler. Price is $2,000.
1989 Cherokee with no power options, no a/c, well maintained,
low mileage 165,000 km's ( 102,000 miles). Original engine/drivetrain.
New brakes, New tires, New front U joints. Price is $3,000.
1998 Cherokee sport with power options, well kept, 180,000 km. (112,000 miles). New rear brakes, New tires.
Price is $4,300. Prices are usually around $5,300 -$6,000 for 1997+
Some people have said to me they can last 350,000km or more ( 217,000 miles) if well maintained. If that's true or bull?
I think one with low mileage may have alot of original parts/sensors that were never replaced by the owner. Where as another with higher mileage most likely will have some new parts/sensors replaced.
I usually drive about 14,000 km's ( 9,000 miles) per year. So a Cherokee with 238,000 km (147,000 miles) would last me about 7 years. Won't keep it more than 4 years.
What would be a reasonable price for one in 230,000 km's range?
Thanks for any suggestions.
It's in Canadian dollars, so take off $200 to make it in U.S. dollars.
May consider importing one from the United States to Canada, from Bellingham/Seattle, Oregon.
