Painter is right - it takes time. It seems like most doctors give 8-12 weeks as the time frame for seeing significant improvement.
In addition to the medication, there are some other things you should do. First of all, raise the head of your bed 6-8 inches (sleeping propped up won't help, you actually need to sleep on an incline). Avoid trigger fooRAB like chocolate, alcohol, caffeinated drinks, tomato-based sauces, peppermint and anything else that triggers your reflux. Finally, eat smaller meals and don't eat anything for 3 hours before you go to bed.
