How long before I take my dog to have her groomed?

I have a 2 month old shitzu/poodle but i don't don't know when its best to start taking her to get groomed. She really needs it but i don't want to scare her the 1st time. Is there a way to prepare her? Or do i just take her?

Well, prepare her by socialization and daily grooming by you everyday, so she gets used to being brushed and touched everywhere.
Just have her groomed when you feel like she needs it. I waited way too long to get my dog groomed, he had little mats all over that I never saw, so he had to be shaved almost bald, haha. Just take her. She'll be fine.
I'd suggest doing it once she has all of her shots, or at least her 3rd set.
Good luck!

The first time will always be scary for a puppy. But as you keep on taking her, she will get used to it. Just go with her for her to get groomed. She'll feel more comfortable with you there.

well even if you gave all her shots on time she shouldnt go to the groomer until a little over 4 months, you will need to brush her yourself until then anyways

Yeah, no groomer, (well professional places such as Petsmart, etc) will take on a puppy that's not fully vaccinated. So she won't be able to be groomed till then.

If you're really concerned, take her to a smaller place where they can do one on one with her. I guess bring her to petsmart for example might be a bit too much on her since she'll be there for over three hours and such. In smaller places, she'll usually be out within an hour and she gets individual attnetion.

Learn to do it yourself. It'll save you a ton of money over the dog's lifetime and as it becomes more comfortable with you and the grooming, it'll be another way to build trust between the 2 of you. Start out slow by just doing a few little things followed by some little treats and build from there. Get her into obedience training classes too-another way for you to spend time together, socialize her and it's good bonding time. Excercise her a lot, especially before the grooming so all her nervous energy is exerted which will make the task a lot easier for both of you. Good luck!
