how long 4 sex after having the baby?

i was jst wondering how long you left it before you and your partner had sex again after giving birth?? when is safe??
 
I was always told to wait until my 6 week check up. But, I know for some it takes longer if there was tearing and a lot of stitches. Some have it sooner than 6 weeks...but the average is 6 weeks. The Doctor will tell her how long to wait...every body, every Doctor is a little different.
