How is this road bike?

On a student budget and I can only afford 400 (which has been hard and the pickings have been tough) but I think I've found something that is a nice entry level bike for my budget. http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/dawes/lt1000.htm

Wondering how it would be for a commuter to school and home plus some extracurricular stuff on the outside.
And is Bikes Direct a reputable seller? The prices seem too good to be true and I'm so happy about them.
 
They are good bikes if you know how to assemble and tune them. Don't go by their sizing / height chart you want a stand over clearance of 1 to 2 inches when standing over the top tube. That is a more accurate way to get the correct size.
