Holly smiled sweetly as she saw Damien approach her. His hair was slightly ruffled and he was wearing his Paramount football shirt. They were getting ready to go to the Freshman football game. Holly and her friends had wished him and Carter the best of luck. She hoped their team would win. Of course, it's always rare when they lose. Damien kissed her on her lip, making a tingling sensation go down her spine. She knew Damien would be the one she would like. They have been only going out for a day and a half, but it still made Holly giddy just thinking about it.
Maris and Courtney stood outside the football stadium, talking. They were doing just fine. Not fighting, arguing, or posting pictures of each other on a donkey. Maris seemed happier than ever. She was no longer crying or sniveling about every problem she had. Courtney was pretty happy with her herself.
"Hi, love!" greeted Courtney, hugging Holly. "I saw you and Damien."
Holly chuckled. "Yeah, I'm excited about it myself."
Maris smiled. "You and Damien make a cute couple. I'm excited for you."
"Thanks, bear." beamed Holly. "Where's the rest."
"Sitting in the football stadium." answered Courtney. "Let's go find them."
The yellow sun beamed down on their faces, casting a shadow underneath them. Their friends were already sitting on the stands. Reese and Savannah were in a deep discussion about something and Andy and Palma were cuddling underneath a blanket. Palma's hair was put into two pigtails, making her look younger.
"Hey, Marty-Mart-Mart!" exclaimed Holly, seeing Martin talking to Carter.
"Hey, little H." he greeted, hugging her.
Holly thought he was the nicest person she had ever met. Why Savannah disliked her, she didn't know. She saw Savannah rolling her eyes behind Martin's back. This was getting out of hand. Savannah needed to be nice to Martin. He wasn't bad and she just wasn't giving him a chance. As they pulled apart, Savannah walked over to them.
"Savannah, can we talk." she asked softly.
"Sure," Savannah smiled, happy to be lured away from Martin.
They found a secluded spot over by the parking lot. Holly sat down on the concrete with her legs spread. Savannah did the same thing, straightening out her bangs. Holly smiled at Savannah sympathetically. She adored her, but she wished Savannah would stop being a bitch to Martin. It just wasn't fair.
"I know what your problem is." said Holly.
"Really?"
"Mm-hmm. You're jealous of Martin."
Savannah's mouth gaped open. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Jealous? There was nothing to be jealous of. Martin was a douchebag just like every other douchebag in the world. Why would she be jealous of a loser like him? He was mean and didn't have any manners. Sure he was charming, but he was still rude. Why wouldn't anyone listen to her?
"Okay...Holly." she finally said, looking at her with a confused look on her face.
"I will always be your friend." Holly went on. "But Martin can be my friend, too."
Savannah gave up. There was no way she could convince her friends that Martin was the one who hated her. So she just sat there nodding and agreeing at everything Holly said.
When they got back to the stadium, Carter, Damien, and the other football players were already out on the field. Savannah stood on top of the bleachers, waving a cardboard with Carter's number on it. Number thirty-six. If there was one thing she could look forward to, was Carter. Earlier that they she had personally told him to win the game for her. He kissed her and promised her he would. Elisha grabbed her by the arm and jumped up and down with her. Savannah noticed that Elisha was a pretty loud screamer. She remembered the time when Savannah had been announced as Homecoming Princess and Elisha had nearly screamed so loud that people in China could hear her.
"Go, Kites!" shouted Elisha. "Yeah, mother-fuckers!"
Savannah had never heard Elisha cuss like that before. It almost made her laugh. Andy came over with a cup full of lemonade, handing it to her.
"Thanks," she smiled, taking a sip from it.
"What's wrong with you and Martin?" he asked concernedly. "Is he the guy who was giving you a hard time?"
She nodded. "Yeah, he's just been so mean to me."
Andy scowled. "Well, any enemy of my friend is my enemy, too."
Savannah felt better. Finally Andy got the point. He now realized how much of a jerk Martin was. She hugged and thanked him. Now she could go on with her life. Savannah cheered as Damien made the first score. Standing next to her, Holly screamed uproariously, stomping her feet on the bleachers. Her cropped top was blue and had the number forty-two on it. That was Damien's number. Carter ran across the field with ball, making sure that the other team wouldn't catch him.
She thought he was the fastest person she had ever seen. She wished she could run like that. Unfortunately she always ended up passing out at the third lap. She took a picture of him with her digital camera as h
