How is the N73 compared to...

SE K800i , i was really thinking about getting one of these phone...i heard that the N73 is slow, but it has better camara, i really don't car about price. but i don't like slow menu phone, please help me thank you
 
Who keeps saying the N73 is slow? The UI on the N73 is not slow, by any means. I can not compare camera quality, but I've been more than satisfied with the pictures my N73 has taken.
 
There are a bunch of comparisons with sample shots that a google search will reveal. One thing that is absolutely clear though is that the xenon flash on the K800i makes it a better camera for low light conditions indoors.

In conditions where the flash isn't useful, camera quality comparison between the K800i and N73 is debatable. That's my opinion owning both.

There are others though. In terms of camera quality outdoors, you can decide for yourself.

The menus are a bit slower on the N73, but the N73 is more versatile on the whole given that it is the S60v3 platform with lots of software available. The N73 is also quad band GSM and supports EDGE, which might be a difference that matters to you depending on your carrier and where you live and travel.
 
One might predict that. On the other hand, I hate to prejudge. You might determine from my phone list to the left that I'm more likely to buy Nokia phones. In some sense that is right, however, some of the SE, and before that Ericsson, phones I've owned over the years have been really great.
 
so it IS right to predict one's preference by looking at their name and fone history =)

anyway.... i would choose k800 over n73... the reason behind this is because of the value for money. since you are getting a camera fone (with more camera than other features), you will want one thats superior to others. k800 xenon flash does help taking pictures in low light conditions. I tried both fones that my friends have and k800 clearly beats it when it comes to dark environment. Then comes to price... k800 is cheaper than a n73, which is why its more "bang for the buck". With a great camera and unbeatable price, how can one resist the temptations. Though i think symbian from n73 is better than the os k800 uses ^^
 
I thought I was bad for getting upset when my phone hangs for a second or two when I remove an application. I can't even understand "regular" phone users with all their "speed" . I would hope they NEVER complain about their phone taking too long to do something.
 
camera N73 takes better pictures and way better video, but K800i takes better images at night because of xenon flash. For music K800i has better organzier and it has A2DP support for wireless bluetooth headphones. N73 is quadband, K800i is triband. N73 can hold up to 2gb memory card, K800i only 1gb (costs more also because of memory stick micro).
 
i have been useing SE for a very long time...i was looking for something new, i am current useing SE M600,( which my mother stole from me) so.. i was thinking about getting a new Phone with Good Camara and features, i was thinking about nokia. i heard Nokia N73 is SLOW, Buggy, Random/Alot of Crashes..so.. i was just wondering..
 
That's a pretty easy 'bash' on Nokia, from any other dedicated manufacturer's longtime user. Kind of like us thinking of switching to SE, and trolling the SE forum claiming the same on the SE k790a or w810..... Not flaming or saying you are trolling or anything like that....I'm just saying the those claims are an easy conversation out on anyone not knowing the other side....instead of saying, 'no I don't know anything about Nokia's s60 phones.....they say, I just heard they suck.'

That being said.....Did you read the reviews linked in Post #4?

If you want a 'fast' Nokia, get something in the S40 OS. It will be similar to your SE experience.

If you want the cream of the crop, get just about any of the S60v3 OS based phones, N series or E series, the most popular here on HoFo being the N73, N80, N93, E61, etc.. At least, IMO based on threads.

WRT to the SLOW, Buggy, Random/Alot of Crashes...um...

1-Did you read the reviews linked in Post #4?

2-I've not had any problems with what you mentioned. Sluggish, sometimes, maybe, but not slow, IMO. I've had the phone over a month now, pretty loaded up with contacts and applications.

Remember when reading those reviews (and the comments on the 'buggy' software), that they are based on code (firmware) that was released over 6 months ago....there's been a couple of updates from Nokia.

I've never had the blank image problem seen in that first video posted. 100s of images so far.

Can't watch the second video. It stops and starts like every 20 seconds for me.

FWIW, both of those reviews were at least 2 revisions of software behind.

Not sure of your first statement......if it's relating to updating the firmware, yes it can be done at home with a PC running the NSU (Nokia Software Updater) updater. All the software is available on the web. The phone comes with a USB to pop port cable.

And....if you are so concerned with camera quality (several posts about it from the OP in this thread), no cell phone, imo, is going to be competition for a separate digital camera or dslr. If I want quick images of my kids, or something I see out and about, the N73 works and does it pretty well. You can see that in all the reviews already posted. If you need more, get a 5 megapixel or better camera. If you need more than that, get a dslr with interchangable lenses. That, is something I can talk 'seriously'. I've used/rented/owned almost every digital camera that Canon has released.

are you really sure that you can update @ home..?
coz i heard from other forums(4got where) that you HAVE to take it to a Nokia Service(something) Center .. to have your phone updated
 
Uh, yeah. Consider my kitchen table a Nokia Service Center I updated my N73 to the latest software available (v3.0638.0.0.1) when I received it mid December 06. I haven't updated to the just released software v3.0649.0.0.1. Was waiting for any 'fallout' issues.

Of course, I'm using an unlocked N73 in the US on Cingular's network....not sure how it works on the locked versions over across the pond.
 
you CAN definitely update it at home. In regards to your "slow, buggy, crashes alot" statments, the N73 is on the same level as or more superior to the M600, depeding on your prefences.
 
Well, early versions of SE firmware tend to be buggy too. Fortunately, you can update. SE was way ahead of Nokia on making firmware updates available to the public - but one can certainly update the N73 via NSU.
