When a neutron in the nucleus decays to ip and ie, the electron is sent out as beta minus. But now there's an extra proton in the nucleus. So shouldn't the daughter be positively charged?
ip <=> 1 proton
ie <=> 1 electron
Andrew Smith, you mean it would be positively charged only if the element were isolated?
