How Is Prolotherapy Done On The Back??

Hi Everyone, I've had Prolotherapy done on my SI joints with great success. However, I don't understand how it would be done on the back? For example, would it be injected into a troubled nerve, disk or facet joint? Any answers would be greatly appreciated:)...janiee
 
Prolo injections are done in ligaments and tendons, joints so it can be done anywhere on the back, knee, shoulder, neck, etc.
 
The facet joints are synnovial joints, just like the knee, ankle, etc. They can be injected with a long, thin needle, just like when an ESI is administered. I imagine it would be done just like the SI joint treatments you received.

I'd be interested in hearing more about the problems you had with your SI joints and how many treatments you had, how they helped, whether you still receive treatments, etc.

Jen -- is the needle placed into the ligament, or is it right next to the ligament or nerve? Do they use fluoroscopy to guide them when doing the spinal injections??
 
Hi, I don't know about other docs and their methoRAB but mine uses kineseology to find the right spot, which he then marks. He also uses this method to determine which solutions to use. As for exact needle placement, I believe this is done in the ligament or tendon where it attaches to the bone. I've had great success with Prolo. Jen.
 
tetonteri, I started having problems with my right SI joint about three years after my second spinal fusion surgery. I started having all the classic symptoms; mostly increased pain when getting up from a lying down position. I diagnosed myself and told my NP what I thought. She pressed on my joint and I screamed!! I guess that was enough to confirm it for her? She said x-rays wouldn't be necessary :confused: Anyways, my PM doc's partner was the one who gave me the Prolotherapy in the right SI joint. I was totally painfree in that area for about three months. Now, it has returned and now the left SI joint is acting up too!!:( So, when I see my PM NP next week, I will ask her to put in a referral for that. So, I've only had this done one time. Since I was on my tummy, I couldn't see what the injection looked like. He just told me that it was Prolo and it was basically a sugar water injection.
